Note from Dr. Anderson: This past week our HMS and BMS PTO’s teamed up to sponsor a showing of Screenagers. We had nearly 100 people in the audience. Screenagers presents an opportunity for families to discuss appropriate uses of technology. I encourage you to view the info/reviews on commonsense media. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/screenagers In addition, I encourage you to visit Screenagers homepage https://www.screenagersmovie.com/ for additional information and helpful parent guides. Thank you HMS/BMS PTO for bringing this opportunity to BMS. BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on our Boy’s Basketball Team for making it to the finals! This past Friday, the Boy’s Basketball Team, Coached by Coach St. Vincent and Coach Raffa, played against Park View from Cranston. Our team played hard and with heart and fell short at the final minutes. Throughout the season, you made our school proud. Great season team! This week, we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Oswald, Mrs. Polando, Mrs. Scanlon, and Mr. Naff for chaperoning the BMS Fan Bus. Thank you for your time and support to our BMS Students. Because of you, we were able to provide our students with a fan bus to support the team. BMS News you can Use: BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. To help with communication, each week I have been releasing the BMS Building Project Blog. You can access the blog by visiting the BMS Building Project Homepage or the direct link to the BMS Building Project Blog. In addition, each Tuesday morning we will have a student volunteer give updates to our student body during morning announcements. Principal Coffee Hour: I would like to invite you to this month’s Principal Coffee Hour on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 7:30 am to 8:30 am in our school’s presentation room. Principal’s Coffee Hour provides families an opportunity to meet with me to discuss a number of school related topics. The first half hour I will have a topic that I will prepare to discuss, and the second half hour will be an open agenda item. I do ask that topics discussed need to be general and not about specific incidents. Free/Reduced Lunch: The Barrington Public Schools want to make sure that we are capturing all of our eligible free and reduced breakfast and lunch students. Parents/Guardians are eligible to apply any time throughout the year and can find the link below for additional information. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B1j6nbhiPz8gY05iOS1GeWhVUHc Please note that hard copies are also available in the main office. BMS Family Book Club: We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a BMS Community Book Club on February 26, 2019 in the BMS library! Please join us for a very special BMS Community Book Club. We will be discussing, Breakout, by Kate Messner. The story revolves around a group of middle-school friends in Wolf Creek who are asked to contribute to their Community Time Capsule Project during summer vacation. Simple enough, right? Until two inmates escape from the town’s maximum-security prison. Told creatively through letters, poems, text messages, news stories, comics, and more collected by the main character, Nora, this scrapbook-style story captures a rich and layered portrait of Wolf Creek for generations to come. In this spirit, we invite all book club participants who are interested, the opportunity to become curators in creating a BMS Time Capsule. This project will capture and preserve the history and spirit of BMS as we know it long after the building is gone, but through our efforts, not forgotten. We look forward to having you join us on this exciting journey!
