BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on 8th Grade Students Sonya Pareek and William McClelland. Recently, Sonya and William were selected to represent Barrington Middle School at the Rhode Island Middle Level Educator Scholar Leader Dinner. The Scholar Leader Award is a prestigious recognition that recognizes students for their dedication towards academics, citizenship, and natural abilities to be leaders amongst their peers. The entire learning community is proud of Sonya and William. Great work! BMS New Information: Last Call for Cluster Preference Requests: This is the last call for cluster preference requests. First, Mrs. Stephanie Nary will be joining our School Counseling team as next year’s 7th grade school counselor. Stephanie will take over Ms. Sandra McCauley’s position as school counselor. Although Mrs. Nary will miss her time in the ELA classroom on Red Cluster, I know she is excited for this new opportunity! The process of filling Mrs. Nary’s position is underway. I would also like to welcome Mrs. Melanie Roy to our learning community. Mrs. Roy will take over Mrs. Nancy Maddocks position as our school’s media center educator (librarian). Although she will miss her students at HMS, I know Mrs. Roy is very excited to join our learning community and collaborate with all of her new students and colleagues. Welcome aboard Mrs. Roy! Library Books: We are beginning the process of collecting all library books that have been checked out of our BMS Library. Please check with your child to see if he/she has a book that is out. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. BMS Old Information: BMS Yearbooks: The sale period for yearbooks from October 2018 to April 2019 is now closed as our yearbook producer must now begin manufacture of our books to get them here for the end of school. If you did not order but would still like to purchase a yearbook, there may be a few extras available on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to be considered for any extras, please submit your name at this link. We will email you with payment information towards the middle of June if we are able to provide you with one. 2019 - 2020 Schedule: As indicated in Mr. Messore’s recent newsletter, Barrington Middle School will tentatively be starting at 8:40 am (students in their homeroom seats) and be dismissed at 3:10 pm. Please know that these times may adjust slightly. In addition, it is also important for me to note that students participating in before school band programs will continue to be afforded the same opportunity next year despite the change in schedule. In addition, students will also be able to participate in after school sports/clubs/activities as well. For more information, please see Mr. Messore’s Frequently Asked Question notice sent out last week. https://drive.google.com/file/d/165W2xtuv1YJNM2jh-ULy9tq1cPPUx_xe/view?usp=sharing Remind: Remind is a communication platform that helps schools and districts reach and engage with their communities. Because it is a texting system, important last minute notices such as late buses, early releases, etc can get out quickly. If you are interested in participating, please click on this link: https://www.remind.com/join/bmsfam BMS Standing Items: BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. To help with communication, each week I have been releasing the BMS Building Project Blog. You can access the blog by visiting the BMS Building Project Homepage or the direct link to the BMS Building Project Blog. In addition, each Tuesday morning we will have a student volunteer give updates to our student body during morning announcements.
