Barrington Middle School BMS Connected Learning Newsletter 5.28.2019 The BMS Learning Community is Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Succeed! Upcoming Events: (Note: Please review the dates as dates are subject to change due to a number of factors from one newsletter to the next).
BMS Spotlight on Learning: This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Kellie Polando. Recently, Mrs. Polando collaborated with Mr. McFarland’s Science class and videotaped 18 newscast teams from Aqua on their recent volcanic eruptions. Mrs. Polando offered technical support, editing, and presentation methodology during filming. In addition, she has given 20 FAST periods of her time to enrich this experience for the students. Well done Kellie! This week we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mark Davis. Mr. Davis offered his expertise to Aqua students in development and creation of effective infographics to highlight their recent finds from their fossil dig. Mr. Davis provided lessons and rubrics with playlists from which students learned about the art and science of an infographic. BMS New Information: One Amazing Night! Thank you to all of of those who attended this year’s One Amazing Night event held this past Thursday! This year, like many events, is bittersweet, as this was our last One Amazing Night in our current building. In particular, I would like to thank Mrs. Anita DiMatteo, Mrs. Mariadh Thomson, and all of the parent volunteers that made this night possible. In addition, I would like to thank Mrs. Dail Bienkiewicz, Mrs. Thurber, Ms. Gower, Mrs. Henderson, Mr. Tainsh, Ms. Sleboda, and Ms. Hamel for your time and expertise during this year’s event. 8th Grade Bridge Ceremony: Our 8th Grade Bridge Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, 2019 beginning at 6:00 pm at Barrington High School. Students will be asked to be in line by 5:30 pm. Due to capacity/room, each student will be issued 2 tickets to give to his/her family members. Tickets that are not used will be re-collected and issued out on a first come first serve basis. Students are asked to bring a flower of their choice with them to this event; it will be incorporated into the ceremony. 8th Grade Dinner Dance: Our 8th Grade Dinner Dance will take place directly after the Bridge Ceremony from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm for BMS 8th grade students only. This year’s theme is under the sea and glow in the dark! Tickets will be purchased in homeroom for $20.00 the week prior to the event. (Please note that 8th graders will be able to arrive one hour later to school the next morning-- Wednesday, June 19th, at 8:30 am). BMS Positions: I would like to officially welcome Mrs. Stephanie Bannon to Barrington Middle School. Mrs. Bannon, who is coming from Barrington High School, will be our new ELA teacher on the Red Cluster! Stephanie is excited to join our learning community, begin to collaborate with her colleagues, and teach her students on Red Cluster. Welcome Mrs. Bannon to BMS! BMS Old Information: Library Books: We are beginning the process of collecting all library books that have been checked out of our BMS Library. Please check with your child to see if he/she has a book that is out. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. BMS Yearbooks: The sale period for yearbooks from October 2018 to April 2019 is now closed as our yearbook producer must now begin manufacture of our books to get them here for the end of school. If you did not order but would still like to purchase a yearbook, there may be a few extras available on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to be considered for any extras, please submit your name at this link. We will email you with payment information towards the middle of June if we are able to provide you with one. Remind: Remind is a communication platform that helps schools and districts reach and engage with their communities. Because it is a texting system, important last minute notices such as late buses, early releases, etc can get out quickly. If you are interested in participating, please click on this link: https://www.remind.com/join/bmsfam BMS Standing Items: BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. To help with communication, each week I have been releasing the BMS Building Project Blog. You can access the blog by visiting the BMS Building Project Homepage or the direct link to the BMS Building Project Blog. In addition, each Tuesday morning we will have a student volunteer give updates to our student body during morning announcements.
