BMS Connected learning Newsletter 6.18.2018 The BMS Learning Community is Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Succeed! Upcoming Events: (Note: Please review the dates as dates are subjected to change due to a number of factors from one newsletter to the next).
Note from Dr. Anderson Mrs. Bulk and I would like to thank everyone for their energy and support for what was an exciting academic school year. In particular, this year BMS was awarded a $200,000 grant to support our district’s/school’s deeper learning initiative, launched our BMS Buddies Program (pairing students together to work together towards a common goal), and the start of construction to our new middle school. We can’t believe this is our last week of school! To say the least, this year flew by. We wish you and your family a relaxing and joyous summer vacation. Best of luck to our 8th graders as they cross the bridge to high school! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall and welcoming our rising 6th graders and their families to our learning community. BMS Spotlight on Learning This week we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on all who made our 8th Grade Bridge Ceremony a success! In particular we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Mrs. Snyder (Purple Cluster Math/SS) and Mrs. Dallessio (Purple Cluster ELA/SS) for your organization and leadership for the Bridge Ceremony and the Dinner Dance. In addition, we would like to thank Mrs. Poirier (6th Grade School Counselor) for reading the names, Mrs. Bienkiewicz for leading the 7th grade band, Mrs. Thurber for leading our 7th/8th Grade Acapella, and Mr. Allder (Red Cluster Science), Mrs. Nary (Red Cluster ELA), Mrs. Ryan (Red Cluster SS), Mrs. Deluski (Red Cluster Special Education), Mrs. Perreira (Red Cluster Special Education), Patty Charette (Red Cluster TA), Mr. Dalessio (Green Cluster SS), Mrs. Fedeli (Green Cluster ELA), Mr. Blanchett (Green Cluster), Mrs. Chobanyan (Purple Cluster Scie/SS), Mrs. Andreozzi (Purple Cluster Special Education), Mrs. Nozaki (Purple Cluster TA) and Mrs. Oswald (Lime Cluster Math) for your support. Without each of you, the 8th Grade Bridge Ceremony would not have been what it was. We would also like to extend our BMS Spotlight on all of our parent volunteers to set up and clean up our BMS Hawaiian Celebration! BMS News you can Use BMS Building Update: The new building construction is well underway. To help with communication, each week I have been releasing the BMS Building Project Blog. You can access the blog by visiting the BMS Building Project Homepage or the direct link to the BMS Building Project Blog. In addition, each Tuesday morning we will have a student volunteer give updates to our student body during morning announcements. BMS Annual Cluster Tournament: Each year, at BMS, we have a friendly competition among clusters. Each year, this event takes on different shapes and forms, and this year, it is going to be exciting!
BMS “Topping Out” Ceremony: Traditionally, in the construction world, “Topping Out” refers to the act of raising and securing the highest steel beam on a new construction project. Remarkably, we are in the process of organizing this ceremony for Tuesday, June 19, 2018 beginning 12:45pm.. This ceremony is an event where we would like the entire student body to watch! BMS Summer Reading: The summer reading website for BMS has been updated and can be accessed from the BPS website under Students/Parents and then summer learning or directly using this link: https://goo.gl/PYXsUP Chartwells’ BMS Cookout: On Wednesday, June 20, hot lunch for the day will be a choice of hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog or veggie burger with salad, baked chips, watermelon and milk or water. Students are $2.85 (reduced, $.40). The event will be held rain or shine but hopefully shine as it will be held outside on the field across from the post office during regularly scheduled lunch periods. BMS Dismissal Procedures: As we head into the last weeks of school, we would like to remind you of our Dismissal Procedures, put into place for the safety of your children. Please remember to always send in a note whenever your child is being dismissed. The note should indicate who is picking up the child and at what time. Please ask your child to bring the note to the front office. It is then your child’s responsibility to remember to come to the office to wait for you at the appropriate time. This cuts down on the amount of interruptions we make into classrooms. With so many activities taking place, it is sometimes very difficult for the office to track down your child. Only in an emergency situation will a child be dismissed to someone other than their parents, without prior notification in writing. Additionally – If you know your child will be absent from school, please make sure you call the office to inform us. Barrington Police Department Anonymous Tip Line: The Barrington Police Department has set up an anonymous tip line at 401-437-3933. Chief Lacrosse welcomes students, parents, and community members to use the line if they would like to remain anonymous and have something to report. Teachable Moment: Cluster Letters: Over the next several weeks, we will be hard at work creating our BMS schedule. We would like to thank everyone for stating their cluster experience preference. Please note that although we wish we could grant everyone’s preference, typically only 60% of the preferences are fulfilled. Cluster letters will be sent out during the beginning weeks of August. Towards the end of July, we will send you a midsummer update with more information and a specific timeframe for the arrival of Cluster letters. Again, once letters are sent, there cannot be any changes made. Barrington Middle School Parent Newsletter
